Description

George Washington famously worshiped at St Paul's Chapel, a Classical Revival brownstone chapel built in 1766, after his inauguration in 1789. Miraculously, the chapel was spared from destruction during the fire of 1776, and also managed to survive the September 11, 2001 terror attacks unscathed, despite being located only a block away from the World Trade Center. Nicknamed "The Little Chapel That Stood," St Paul's opened its doors to the first responders and rescue workers, providing refuge, spiritual and emotional support, and food service around the clock.
