Description

The historic enclave of Gramercy Park, a romantic oasis in the heart of Manhattan, was established in 1831 by Samuel Ruggles. He drained a swamp and designed the neighborhood’s streets after the style of English gardens. While access to the private park is restricted, you can still enjoy its beauty as you peek through the gate – perhaps even imagining iconic actor James Cagney, who lived at 34 Gramercy Park E, enjoying its splendor. Also within the area is the National Arts Club on 15 Gramercy Park S, whose members have included celebrities like Martin Scorsese, Uma Thurman, and Ethan Hawke.
