Description

Popularly referred to as Grant's Tomb, this monument is the burial site of Ulysses S. Grant, the Civil War hero and 18th president of the United States, and his wife, Julia. It is the largest mausoleum in America and was completed in 1897, 12 years after Grant's death. Visitors are able to learn more about Grant's life through the gallery which displays key events of his life. Rangers are available to give guided tours of the site and to answer questions about Grant. The mausoleum is an iconic landmark, often referenced in popular culture, such as the classic joke, ‘Who’s buried in Grant’s Tomb?’ ‘Who?’ ‘Grant, stupid!’
