Description

Originally constructed to protect New York Harbor during the War of 1812, this national monument has since been transformed into an opera house, entertainment complex and even an aquarium. Today, it functions as a visitor center featuring a variety of historical displays (including an impressive timeline demonstrating the city's growth over time), a ticket booth for ferries to both the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, a gift shop, and restrooms.
